SEUSSICAL JR. AUDITION PREP SESSIONS

Audition preparation is an important part of any training for young actors who are serious about performing in their communities and beyond. This preparatory workshop is geared towards the young actor who would benefit from some tips to improve their audition homework plan and would like information on how auditions at Civic Theatre are run. The session includes a review of audition protocol and how to prepare for an audition (at any venue) in addition to what roles are available in SEUSSICAL JR.

The director will also go over the tentative rehearsal schedule for the production and what the expectations of the cast and parents will be.

PLEASE NOTE: Attendance or lack of attendance at these workshops will in no way influence casting.

Students age 8-14 and parents are encouraged to attend.

(Both sessions are identical so young actors only need attend one session.)

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR PREP SESSIONS FOR EVERY STUDENT AND PARENT ATTENDING. 

Cost: $10 per attendee (Limit: 50 attendees -including parents- per session)

No experience necessary to audition for SEUSSICAL JR. - All Experience Levels Welcome!

Performers ages 8 - 14 years old are welcome to audition.

If cast, there will be a $50 participation fee per cast member.


What To Prepare

Please prepare 16 bars of a musical theatre song that shows off your voice. Bring sheet music in a binder with you for the audition. An accompanist will be provided. PLEASE MAKE SURE THE SHEET MUSIC INCLUDES A PIANO PART.

At the audition, each child will be provided a line from the show to read.

Character Descriptions

Jojo

A "Thinker." A smart child with a wild imagination. JoJo can be played as being a little bit awkward, a little bit of a loner, or simply a rambunctious kid whose "Thinks" result in constant trouble.

The Cat in the Hat

The essence of mischief, fun and imagination. The Cat stirs things up and causes trouble but always sets things right again. The Cat helps JoJo discover the power of imagination as they create the story of SEUSSICAL JR. together.

Horton the Elephant

A gentle giant. Think of Horton as a big-hearted, blue-collar guy who is steadfast, responsible and always tries to do the right thing. The is sympathetic and receptive to the world around him. He believes in the inherent goodness of the world, so it's not surprise that he always looks for the good in others.

Gertrude McFuzz

Very self conscious about her one-feather tail. Gertrude gains confidence throughout the show, changing from an anxious, nervous, shy bird into someone whose self-worth doesn't rest on her appearance.

Mayzie La Bird

Self-centered, vain and manipulative. She ultimately means no harm, but she's immature and makes selfish decisions.

Mr. & Mrs. Mayor

Mr. Mayor and Mrs. Mayor are parents trying hard to raise a child with a big imagination. These Whos may get aggravated with JoJo, but they love him dearly. They are also upstanding members of their community.

Wickersham Brothers

The Wickersham Brothers are not bad guys! They tease, play pranks, and get a kick out of making mischief, although often at another's expense.

Bird Girls

The Bird Girls are a fabulous group of birds who know everything there is to know about the goings on in the jungle and support Mayzie throughout the show.

Sour Kangaroo

Loud, brassy and a lot of fun. She's got a lot of attitude but isn't mean - she's just very confident and unafraid to tell it like it is.

Young Kangaroo

Sour Kangaroo's feisty offspring. They may be pint-sized, but they've got a big personality and is following in their mother's footsteps.

Judge Yertle the Turtle

The authoritative judge who presides over Horton's trial at the end of the show.

Vlad Vladikoff

The black-bottomed eagle who flies off with the Whos.

The Grinch

Arguably, the most famous Seuss character of all!

The Whos, the Jungle Citizens, Hunters, Circus Animals, Fish, Nurses, Courtroom Attendants, etc.
